Mystery Shopper

Be a Mystery Shopper!!  Do you care about customer service?  I know I sure do, in fact today I was in a grocery store that the 2 cashiers that were available both looked like they just got done eating rotten eggs, no smiles, no personal connection at all.  That is what this mystery shopping program is all about, how to treat customers so that they want to come back.  Secret Shopper will give you the opportunity to help those digital, brick and mortar companies improve customer service.

What does Secret Shopper offer for opportunities?  You will be rewarded cash for being a mystery shopper, using your expertise tin evaluating customer service in many aspects of the business world.  There are opportunities to evaluate businesses such as banking institutions, restaurants, salons, hotels and so many more types of business.  Be a mystery shopper that focuses on solutions, productivity and deliver the greatest customer experiences.

I am sure we all have our horror stories of a shopping experience, where the associate just treated you so poorly you just didn’t want to even shop at that store ever again.  I really have a hard time understanding what an associate thinks they gain by offering poor customer service.  I can speak from both sides of the fence, I worked as a customer service associate in a grocery store for a number of years and I know some customers can be a little difficult but you just have to keep that smile glowing on your face and treat them with utmost respect.  I have also been a customer and mystery shopper and have experienced some really poor situations.

Red Bicycle Gift Shop

This past weekend I made a trip up to Ashland, Wisconsin and I had such a great time. My friend I was visiting brought me to a number of unique shops and one of them was the Red Bicycle Gift Shoppe.  I would encourage you if you are ever up in that area of Wisconsin you experience the Red Bicycle.

You know the saying, “it’s a small world,”?  Well once again that was brought to truth as the co-owner of the Red Bicycle is the wife of a man from mine & my husband’s pass, he actually use to work with my husband.  Seems everywhere I go I run into someone who I have some connection with.

And speaking of connections, as I walked through this shoppe I found so many items that took me back to years gone by, for example in the following picture you will see a ruler that is shaped into a star, made me think of my Dad, it is one of those old folding rulers, such a neat way to use it and display it.

They have display a local photographer’s photos, so many beautiful prints that you could purchase singly and there were a wonderful display of photos mounted in specialty frames.  How so many simple items can be turned into such a work of art just amazes me, I wish I had such a great imagination.

Just so much nostalgia and creativeness in the Red Bicycle Shoppe, I just wanted to buy and buy!!   If you are looking for a special decor item, something to give that one little spot in your house where you just needed that one interesting piece, I am sure you could find it here.  Or if you are looking for an attractive piece of jewelry there are many choices.

And the nostalgia displays that will bring you back to your growing up years or make you think of your grandma.  I sure wish I would have saved all those older items I had as a young married wife, those things I thought were so old fashion and out of date.  You can even buy your little girl or grandchild a gift here, made me think how my little granddaughter would love an apron like one of these.

I hope this encourages you to check out all the unique shops in a small city in Northern Wisconsin and while you are up there make sure to take advantage of all the other scenery in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

The Burning Bush

The Burning Bush

Burning Bush

The Burning Bush

When I have went through town I have seen this Burning Bush and it reminded me of the bible story in Exodus 3:1-5, about Moses and how God spoke out of The Burning Bush.  This is such a pretty bush in the fall, I have always wanted one, they add so much color to your yard.

Moses was keeping the sheep, he didn’t have any high end job, just doing what he was suppose to be doing!  Some would say that was a very low job for a man who once held the position of a prince in Pharoah’s court.  But God will use us in whatever position we are at, we just need to have a willing heart, love the Lord, obey his commandments.  It doesn’t matter what our status in life is, but more what our relationship with God is.

The Burning Bush was just a thorny old bush, it wasn’t a great stately cedar and God used it to speak to Moses.  Is God somehow trying to get your attention, do you have a Burning Bush in your life?

Exodus 3: 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. Moses said, “Here am I.”  Are we willing to say Here Am I?

Funny little story, when our 14 year old granddaughter was 1 1/2, her mom & her came to our house, my husband and I were sitting in the other room watching tv, our granddaughter came in through the patio doors and announcing, “I’m Here!”

We need to be like that little granddaughter of ours and announce to God, “I’m Here!”  Willing spirit to serve the Lord wherever he wants to use us.

Amy Carmicheal a missionary in India for 55 years, opened orphanges and a mission, a great servant for the Lord, if you have never read her life story I encouraged you to.  She wrote many books about her mission work, one of her inspiring moments she wrote:

Give me the love that leads the way,

The faith that nothing can dismay,

The hope no disappointments tire,

The passion that will burn like fire,

Let me not sink to be a clod:

Make me Thy fuel, flame of God.

I am willing, I am able thine Lord!!

Favorite Apple Crisp

It is a rainy cool day here in Northern Wisconsin and I thought turning the oven on and baking something that would give a delightful aroma throughout the house was a great idea, so today I am going to share my Favorite Apple Crisp recipe with you. I actually got this recipe from my friend Betty and I just love it!!

Favorite Apple Crisp Recipe

Favorite Apple Crisp

It is apple picking time and there are so many great recipes to use all those yummy apples for.  I know my husband really likes when I make him an apple pie or apple crisp and with it being that time of year apples are on sale!  I got out my Apple Peeler/Corer, it makes the job so much easier and faster, if you have a lot of recipes that require peeled apples and you don’t have one of these great tools I would suggest you get one, it is magnificent.  I bought mine at Menards when they had a sale on them I don’t think I paid more then $5.00 for it.  Here is how it works!

Apple Peeler/Corer

Apple Peeler/Corer

  1. Stick your apple on the 3 pronged gripper fork.
  2. Turn the crank hand to peel, core & slice.
  3. Pull your completely peeled, sliced & cored apple off the prong.

And there you have all your apples ready for your baking recipe, here I laid my sliced apples in a buttered baking dish.  Normally you would use a square 8 X 8 pan for 6 apples as the recipe calls for, but I used 8 apples and a 10 X 7.5″ pan.

Next steps is to add your butter, sugar & flour into a bowl and cut it with a pastry cutter until it is blended fine like cornmeal.

Cover sliced apples with butter, sugar & flour mixture and sprinkle on cinnamon.  Place in heated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.  Smell the aroma from this Favorite Apple Crisp baking?  I know you will enjoy every last bite!  Want a real treat top it with a scoop of ice cream!

Easy DIY Fabric Napkins

Finished Napkin

Easy DIY Fabric Napkin

I had this extra large table cloth I bought at a bargain and so I decided why not make some napkins with the excess fabric?  Anyone can make a set of napkins, just follow the Easy DIY Fabric Napkins instructions and you will have yourself a useful set of napkins to grace your table setting.

$5.00 Tablecloth

$5.00 Tablecloth

I started off by cutting a 30″ depth piece off of the end of my table cloth, and I made a 11 X 11″ pattern so I could cut out 4 napkins, obviously I will get more than 4 from the piece I cut off but we will start with 4 of them for now.    You can cut your napkins any size you would like, just keep in mind that you always want to cut them 1″ larger then the size napkin you prefer.  Also depending on the fabric you use, you want to chose fabric that is going to be absorbent and will not shrink when wash, to prevent shrinkage pre-wash your fabric.  So now we have the 4 11 X 11″ napkins cut out and now onto the Easy DIY Fabric Napkins instructions.

I am going to show you how to do a mitered edge instead of the just stitch seams over each other, makes for a little fancier edge, I think you will be pleased with your finished edges.

  • Fold both raw edges in 1/2” and press.
  • Fold pressed edges out.
  • Fold the corners up from where the 2 fold creases meet.
  • Clip the corner off, a hint hold it up from the rest of the fabric and clip the corner above the fold lines.
  • Fold the two sides up again and press, you will see how the mitered edges meet together.
  • Fold each side under 1/4” to meet the inner fold and press.

With the stitching done on all edges of all 4 napkins, press each napkin well!!  A nice added touch to your table, I am planning on using them for a fall get together, wouldn’t they look nice with a nice acorn napkin ring?

I have been married for 45 years and have fixed I don’t know how many meals for my family, sometimes I just need a break from trying to come up with something for the next meal, so a meal out is a welcome change.  Doing these surveys gives me the opportunity to earn extra cash for those once in a while meals out.

About 20 years ago, my husband & I had a ministry to Jails & Prisons in Wisconsin, this ministry took us away from home many Sundays and we also were on deputation.  You ask what is deputation, it is going out to other churches and presenting your ministry to encourage churches or even individuals to support the ministry through monetary pledges.  As we were out doing the ministry or on deputation we did eat out a lot, many times the extra cash came in handy for those times.

Celery In The Freezer

Fresh Stalk of Celery

Celery In The Freezer

I had planted so much celery this year, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it all.  It was so wonderful to go out to my garden and cut a few stalks of fresh celery to use in my different recipes.  What shall I do with all the celery still sitting in my garden?  Here in Northern Wisconsin it is going to start getting pretty cold soon, so the celery has to come out of the garden. The question is, can I put celery in the freezer?

I read a few articles and found freezing celery was easy and a good way to have it on hand for all those soup recipes through the winter, which I make soup at least once a week & my favorite is Potato Soup, so I am drying celery leaves also because I always like to add some to my Potato Soup.

I started by cutting my celery stalks off of the main hub and then putting the stalks in cold water to get any dirt off of them, scrubbed them down some and then I was ready to start dicing & dicing!!

And here we have it, I should have kept count of how many stalks of celery I diced up but I didn’t, I know I had 5 plants in my garden and they were a really healthy plant.  I would suggest for anyone that likes celery or who uses a lot of it for soups or canning that you grow it, I had just started growing it a few years ago and have been very thankful I had it on hand.  After dicing & dicing I ended up more then a large bowl of celery, ready for the freezer.  I laid it out on a large jelly roll pan and froze it for 2 hours.

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

As I was travelling to Hayward, Wisconsin yesterday I came across this building made of stone, by looking at it you can tell that when it was built it was built on a strong foundation.  I remember as a kid and the house where I grew up in had a stone foundation, the walls in the basement were built with stone, I don’t know how old that house was but it definitely has a strong foundation because it is still standing and my parents bought that house back in 1956 and the previous owners had lived there for quite some time, it didn’t have running water into the house when we moved there, so that tells you it had to have been built a good number of years previously.

Have you ever been walking through the woods and came upon a foundation?  When we were kids we would go across the road we lived on and there were a few different foundations there, the town had at one time been there and as years went by others built south of town and those buildings were not used any longer, but the foundations were still there, someone had built a strong foundation, strong enough that us kids would practice our balancing by walking around on the top of the foundation, it never crumbled under us.

Isaiah 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

The Lord God is our sure foundation, our strong foundation, when we lay our life’s in his hands we are sure to stay firm and if we trust him he will carry us through.  Isaiah 28:6 also says a precious corner (stone), if the corner stone isn’t laid up properly then the whole foundation can be out of whack and eventually not strong enough to hold the building up, like us if our corner stone isn’t strong then our foundation will be weak and when a storm comes our foundation will collapse.   The Lord God is one that can be trusted and will give us the strength we need to go through any storm in life we may face.  Have you made the Lord God your corner stone, your strong foundation?
