Little Box of Love

Little Box of Love

This Valentines I made my husband a little picture box, I call it the, “Little Box of Love.”  I called it that because it contains pictures from when we first met until recently, it is like our little love story in just a matter of 12 pictures.

Little Box of Love

Photos of us from the beginning to now.

My husband was sharing with our church congregation about how much the “Little Box of Love” meant to him, he didn’t think I knew but I was well aware of how much he appreciated it, because it was more then just a bunch of pictures, it has so much more meaning.

Sometimes in our life we don’t realize the impact of what others do with their life, how they go through the rough times or how they continue the race.  God’s word says, Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

This little box of pictures is a lifetime, it represents a life before salvation and a life of living for Christ.  As I sat and listened to my husband share about the meaning of the Little Box of Love, I thought what if neither one of us would have accept Christ as our Saviour, what if we wouldn’t have II Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  what if we wouldn’t have done what God wanted?  There were many struggles through our almost 46 years of marriage, it begin in a sinful life style and has come to a life that has been faithfully serving the Lord.

The most beautiful aspect of this Little Box of Love is the love and surrender to God, without our complete surrender to obedience to God there would not be a marriage that has lasted as long as it has.

Marriage is hard work, it takes much sacrifice and surrender to God but the rewards are many.

  • Luke 10:27-“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”
  • Ephesians 5:22 -“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”
  • Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
  • Psalm 127:1-(A Song of degrees for Solomon.) Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
  • Proverbs 12;4-A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Hebrews 12:1 – Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Trademark Of God

 Trademark Of God

Trademark of God

Young boy crosses between cliffs with faith

Think about it for a moment, how do you represent God?  Do others recognize you as a child of God?  What is your Trademark of God?

The definition of a trademark from the Merriam Webster Dictionary: A distinguishing characteristic or feature firmly associated with a person or thing.

What is your distinguishing Godly characteristic that people that know you would say about you?  Each believer should be able to be described as a one that represents God in all they do. When I think about bible characters several come to mind, but there is one that really sticks out and that is Daniel, the adversity he faced along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.  Daniel was placed in the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the king wanted children of Jerusalem that were without blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom. Consider this for a moment, how Daniel carried these character trademarks with him the whole time they were in the kingdom, withstanding many obstacles.

As a Christian when we go through difficult times in our life do carry that trademark of God through those times, even if it isn’t difficult times, can others say you are like Daniel and represent God faithfully?

How do people see you?  When you go to work are you that one that everyone knows you will complain or that others can come and complain to and they know you will listen?  Or when you go shopping are you that one that gets so frustrated with the way other people are in the store, some people can be so rude and inconsiderate, but how do you handle it?  God wants us to reveal ourselves through our actions, remember the old saying, “Actions speak louder then words,” how true it is.

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Each of us need to purpose in our hearts that we will represent ourselves as God would be, that is what Christian means being Christ Like, being as he would be, doing as he would do!  Can we stand during those trials and still carry the trademark of God or do we fail and fall to the temptation?  Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were put in a position where they had to prove their Trademark of God and they said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of the thine hand, O king.  But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou has set up.  Daniel 3: 16-18

How does your Trademark of God stand up?  Can people recognize you as one of God’s children because of your character?

Thirsting After Righteousness

Thirsting After Righteousness

Matthew 5:16 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

When my husband and I were given the gift of a trip to visit our friends in Arizona we were also treated to a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Thirsting After Righteousness

Grand Canyon

Flowing down through the Grand Canyon is the Colorado River and you will notice right along the shore of the river the foliage is green, surviving because it is fed from the waters.  But as you move away from the shores of the river things are dry and brown.

Thirsting After Righteousness

Colorado River

As believers when we are filled with the Living Word of God we thirst after righteousness.  When we stop learning and studying God’s Word we are like the dried up foliage on the distant banks of the Colorado River.

Have you ever been so very thirsty that you want that drink to quench the over whelming thirst? We went with our church on a mission trip to El Paso, Texas to the mission work “Bearing Precious Seed.” They print bibles in different languages and distribute them.  On this afternoon we were going to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, it was 136 degrees in the sun & 116 in the shade.  I was so extremely thirsty and when I got the cold bottle of water it hit the spot, quenched my thirst.

That is how we as believers should desire to know the Word of God, to fill us to quench the dryness in our soul.

John 4:14: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

And let me end by saying if you are looking for a mission trip to go on, Bearing Precious Seed is a great ministry, you will be blessed thoroughly. The link to Bearing Precious Seed

Are You Overwhelmed?

Are You Overwhelmed?

The Light

Star of David

This time of year can have each of us overwhelmed, is that how you are feeling right now.  Are you overwhelmed with buying just the right gift?  Are you overwhelmed with having enough money to buy those gifts? Are you overwhelmed with all that has to be done before the company shows up?

I know every year I get that overwhelmed feeling, it seems like Decemember 1st shows up and pow all of a sudden it is December 20th and I still have so much to do.  I don’t know why I allow myself to get that “Are You Overwhelmed,” feeling because I always seem to get it done.

Are You overwhelmed?

Are You Overwhelmed with the shopping?

The saddest part about it is, do we get so involved in the Christmas shopping, the baking, the decorating, the Christmas Programs or the parties, that we forget the real reason we even have Christmas?  Let’s try to take some time to get focused back on the wonderful glory of Christmas!!

As a child growing up it was all about the presents, a few years we went to church on Christmas, that was when we would go to my Aunt Delores’ and Uncle Arnold’s in Superior, Wisconsin for Christmas, otherwise there was no focus whatsoever on the real meaning of Christmas.

I want my grandkids growing up knowing why Christmas is even a holiday, why we should not just think it is for all the fun that comes with the the holiday season.  I want them to know it is CHRISTMAS, not just a holiday, and that is more then just a holiday!

Are You Overwhelmed?

The Saviour Jesus Christ

If you don’t know the reason for Christmas, let me share it with you!

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

That virgin was Mary who was engaged to Joseph, the Holy Spirit of God came upon her and Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:
and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

That same baby who we see so often depicted in our nativity scenes is the same baby that grew into manhood as God planned and died on the cross for each of us, for our sins.  That was the whole plan that the baby would grow and die for each of us, that we could have salvation through the repentance of our sin.

Don’t let the season just be about presents, delicious cookies, decorating or even spending time with family, but if you don’t know the Lord Jesus as your Saviour take this time now to accept him into your life.  Are you overwhelmed? Maybe this time of year is very difficult for you because it represents some very sad memories, let the Lord carry that burden for you.

Greenery with Christmas scripture, Isaiah 9

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Are You Overwhelmed

Merry Christmas To You

Heart of Thanksgiving

Heart of Thanksgiving

Psalm 107:1

Heart of Thanksgiving Psalm 107:1

A Heart of Thanksgiving should be part of our character continually, just like David had a heart after God we should also have a heart that demonstrates our thankfulness of what Christ did on the cross for each of us.

As I think of a spirit of thankfulness it brings to mind the 10 lepers and how only 1 of the 10 returned to thank Christ for healing them, so only 1 had the spirit of thankfulness.  Even though all 10 lepers were healed for the same disease there were 9 that didn’t have a thankful prospective.  How many times should we be thankful and we don’t have a thankful spirit. We shouldn’t be like those other 9 lepers but we should be as the following verse speaks of.

I Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

It isn’t easy giving thanks in every thing, it doesn’t say just in the good things but in every thing, even those not so good things, those trials that feel like our hearts are being ripped out of us, those times when we don’t think the bad is ever going to end, but those are the times when we can take hold of Isaiah 41:10Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

As it says in Psalms 106:1 to give thanks to the Lord and that his mercy endureth for ever.  How sweet it is to be thankful for such a wonderful promise, to know that the Lord is merciful and that it endureth forever.

I wasn’t raised in a home where God was not the center of our family’s life and so I went into adulthood not being focused on following anything godly and I took some steps in my life that lead me down a path of some hard times, but when I was 24, I accepted the Lord as my personal savior.  That didn’t just automatically give me a wonderful, rose garden life, but as years have went by I have learned how to trust the Lord, how to be thankful for his mercy in my life and even for all the hard time experiences and what I have learned from them and how I can use them to help others.

Ephesians 5:20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

I want to wish each and everyone of you a Very Blessed Thanksgiving!!!

The Great Massive Tree

The Great Massive Tree

The Great Massive Tree

The Great Massive Tree

The Great Massive Tree picture made me think about how long this great massive tree has been standing and how rooted it is into the ground or it wouldn’t remain standing. When I was a kid we had a great massive pine tree in our yard and even though the winds would blow so very strong that tree stood firm.

Brought to mind about where our life’s are rooted.  Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Makes me think of when I am planting my garden and how important it is to make sure the roots of the seedling are placed properly in the soil, or even how you plant your seeds so they grow that when they sprout they will produce properly.  If you plant your onion sets upside down what are the chances they will take root and produce the fruit you are hoping for.

Just like in our own life where do we get our direction and where are our life’s rooted?  When we make our root in the Word of God we will have a firm foundation just like The Great Massive Tree.

In Luke 6:47-49 Jesus tells the parable of the wise man building his house on a firm foundation and when it rained and rained the house stood firm, but the foolish man built his house on the sand and when the rains came the house did not stand, it was washed away.  We can choose to be like either the wise man or the foolish man, we can have a firm foundation on the Lord or deny the Lord and not follow after him as he desires for us.

Stay rooted and grounded in the Word of God, let the Lord Jesus Christ be your firm foundation!   Isaiah 28:16Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

The Burning Bush

The Burning Bush

Burning Bush

The Burning Bush

When I have went through town I have seen this Burning Bush and it reminded me of the bible story in Exodus 3:1-5, about Moses and how God spoke out of The Burning Bush.  This is such a pretty bush in the fall, I have always wanted one, they add so much color to your yard.

Moses was keeping the sheep, he didn’t have any high end job, just doing what he was suppose to be doing!  Some would say that was a very low job for a man who once held the position of a prince in Pharoah’s court.  But God will use us in whatever position we are at, we just need to have a willing heart, love the Lord, obey his commandments.  It doesn’t matter what our status in life is, but more what our relationship with God is.

The Burning Bush was just a thorny old bush, it wasn’t a great stately cedar and God used it to speak to Moses.  Is God somehow trying to get your attention, do you have a Burning Bush in your life?

Exodus 3: 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. Moses said, “Here am I.”  Are we willing to say Here Am I?

Funny little story, when our 14 year old granddaughter was 1 1/2, her mom & her came to our house, my husband and I were sitting in the other room watching tv, our granddaughter came in through the patio doors and announcing, “I’m Here!”

We need to be like that little granddaughter of ours and announce to God, “I’m Here!”  Willing spirit to serve the Lord wherever he wants to use us.

Amy Carmicheal a missionary in India for 55 years, opened orphanges and a mission, a great servant for the Lord, if you have never read her life story I encouraged you to.  She wrote many books about her mission work, one of her inspiring moments she wrote:

Give me the love that leads the way,

The faith that nothing can dismay,

The hope no disappointments tire,

The passion that will burn like fire,

Let me not sink to be a clod:

Make me Thy fuel, flame of God.

I am willing, I am able thine Lord!!

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

Strong Foundation

As I was travelling to Hayward, Wisconsin yesterday I came across this building made of stone, by looking at it you can tell that when it was built it was built on a strong foundation.  I remember as a kid and the house where I grew up in had a stone foundation, the walls in the basement were built with stone, I don’t know how old that house was but it definitely has a strong foundation because it is still standing and my parents bought that house back in 1956 and the previous owners had lived there for quite some time, it didn’t have running water into the house when we moved there, so that tells you it had to have been built a good number of years previously.

Have you ever been walking through the woods and came upon a foundation?  When we were kids we would go across the road we lived on and there were a few different foundations there, the town had at one time been there and as years went by others built south of town and those buildings were not used any longer, but the foundations were still there, someone had built a strong foundation, strong enough that us kids would practice our balancing by walking around on the top of the foundation, it never crumbled under us.

Isaiah 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

The Lord God is our sure foundation, our strong foundation, when we lay our life’s in his hands we are sure to stay firm and if we trust him he will carry us through.  Isaiah 28:6 also says a precious corner (stone), if the corner stone isn’t laid up properly then the whole foundation can be out of whack and eventually not strong enough to hold the building up, like us if our corner stone isn’t strong then our foundation will be weak and when a storm comes our foundation will collapse.   The Lord God is one that can be trusted and will give us the strength we need to go through any storm in life we may face.  Have you made the Lord God your corner stone, your strong foundation?

Do You Know the Lord’s Mercies?

Do You Know The Mercies of God?

Psalm 106:1

How many times have you felt like everything is just falling to pieces and you can’t seem to get a grip on what is happening in your life at the time?  Are you forgetting the Mercies of God? Most of the time when things seem so impossible and I just can’t seem to find my way clear of the heart ache or out the troubles that seem to be over powering me, it is because I have forgotten to look to the good, to the mercies the Lord has given me.  There are times I can only see the bad in a situation, the reason for that is because I am not giving it to God, I am trying to fix it, the scriptures speaks about how we can’t know the mind of God, we can’t fully understand what is happening at the time because we don’t know the purpose God has in it for us, we just want it better.

During times of trouble or distress in my life I have learned to just go on my knees and give it to God, just pleading my heart out to him and ask him to give me peace through the troubles, I can’t tell you how many times the burden on my heart has been lifted.

Too often we are like the Israelites.  When things go wrong, we so easily forget all the years of blessings from God’s hand.  In Exodus 14, the Israelites were upset with Moses for bringing them down to the Red Sea & they started complaining because Moses had brought them there to die at the hand of the Egyptians, the Israelites were not understanding Moses trust in God, or God’s power, but then, God saved them from the Egyptians by opening the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross on dry ground and then closed the sea on the Egyptians, of course they all died.  The Israelites of course were all thankful then but what happen 3 days later, they started complaining again, forgetting that God endureth forever!
